Angela Brownridge will play some of the most brilliant compositions ever written for piano: Beethoven's two sonatas are the finest from his early and middle periods. Nothing written before could match the brilliance of Op. 2 no. 3 and the "Appassionata" was the most dramatic and technically demanding of its time, never played until after Beethoven's death being considered to be too difficult. The two Chopin works are ranked amongst his greatest and whilst teaching the Fantasy in F minor Chopin exhorted his pupil to 'play like a tiger'. The Grande Polonaise is his most light-hearted work providing him with brilliance with which he dazzled his Paris audiences. The Debussy Preludes bring yet another musical language to the piano: beauty of tone and freedom of harmony in the most magical descriptions of mood and character.

Beethoven Sonata in C op 2 no 3
